Sometimes a balanced life means knowing when to take a break. In America it seems as though breaks do not always happen as much as they are needed. Sometimes we can get by by upping our regime at the gym, grab an extra spark from a coffee or an energy drink, or maybe be motivated by a good book or speaker. But in the long run it’s these breaks and retreats that are absolutely needed for your overall health and well being.
I knew I needed a break from a lot of things in America and a short trip was just not going to do it. I needed to leave to gain perspective and I needed to remove myself long enough to gain clarity and deeper understanding. The ego-driven workaholics usually burn out because they are too prideful to realize that even they need a break.
More than a break from work related issues, I needed a break from distractions, consumerism, marketing, recruitment... Buy This, Join Our Program, Don't Miss This Event, Follow Us On….
Some may say, “Well Matt, not everyone can pick up and leave like you did!” I don't even entertain these conversations because they have no idea what has been sacrificed in my life to make a trip like this happen, nor do they need to. That’s not the point. Here is what it all boils down to – some people will make excuses, others will make sacrifices to achieve what they desire. I desire peace. I desire perspective. I desire balance.
If it was not for this trip, and having to prioritize for it, sacrifice for it, I may not have experienced a rekindling within my spirit to come back home and fight for what is most important to me, my future. This is why I share with you the importance of balance and not to allow any excuses to deter you from finding yours.
