There were two exact moments during my stay that struck me, and I knew right away that I needed to try and capture them as best I could. I did this for nothing more than to remember those moments and the personal value they carried.
One night, Master allowed Pablos and myself to accompany him to dinner with a former student of his. Dinner was good. We finished and then took in the culture a bit, seeing the city at night. Master wanted us to walk home so he had one of his former students drop us off about forty minutes from where we were staying, We began our short journey; it was nice, a bit humid but not unbearable.
He guided us towards a magnificent bridge that crossed over a jet black lake. The lake’s darkened water was still and reflected the tone of the city lights beautifully. We didn’t stay long, but if it was up to me we could have easily stopped for a moment, sipped on a hot cup of coffee and smoked a good cigar right then and there.
It was in that moment when I realized that this will never happen again; not in the same place, at that time, with those people. This was the first time in a long time, where I was able to appreciate a moment while actually experiencing it. I’m not always successful, but I do attempt to make more of an effort to practice these momentary excursions wherever I go. It is moments like these that make the intangible, tangible.
